Surgery
In the event of a sudden illness or accident, Peoria Area Veteriary Group is fully staffed and equipped to offer your pet instant veterinary care, diagnostic work-up and a treatment plan.  We have up to date diagnostic equipment such as blood chemistry, hematology, radiology, ultrasound, blood pressure, tonometry, and ECG.  Our staff are highly trained to be able to assist the doctor in whatever circumstance may arise with your pet.  We offer the highest standard of intensive care should it be required to aid in the recovery process.  Should your pet require surgery, we offer modern surgical techniques that include induction, general anesthesia, anesthetic monitoring, intravenous fluid therapy, pain management, and recovery.

For your convenience we offer early morning check-in times for day hospitalization patients, dental prophylactic care and surgical procedures.  Having your pet here between 7:30 and 7:50 a.m. allows us time to discuss relevent facts to your case and collect any further information we may need.  All outpatient appointments start at 10:00 a.m. on days with surgical procedures and 8:00 a.m. with no inpatient procedures scheduled.  All patients are seen on an appointment basis except in an emergency where they will be seen immediately.

If an emergency arises outside of our normal business hours, please contact the Tri-County Emergency Clinic at (309) 672-1565 and they will be able to either give you advice over the telephone or have you bring your pet immediately to their facility located at 1800 North Sterling Ave in Peoria.  Please give them as much information as possible regarding any past medical problems your pet may have had or continues to have and what your emergency entails.  Let them know that you are a member of the Peoria Area Veterinary Group and they will inform us of what treatment has been given.

General Surgical Procedures:

Our doctors are able to perform most general surgical procedures that include external and internal tumor removal, aural hematoma repair, biopsies, foreign body removal, cystotomy to remove bladder stones, caesarians, wound repair, cherry eye repair, corneal ulcer treatment, etc.  Most surgical patients will receive an IV catheter and IV fluid therapy during their procedures depending on the medical plan outlined by the veterinarian.

Routine Spays and Castration
Through spaying and castrating our dogs and cats we are not only preventing unwanted pregnancies and adding to the already abundance of homeless pets but are also preventing potential cancers and infections from occuring later in the pet's life. Intact female dogs and cats are at risk for uterine, ovarian and mammary cancers while the intact male is at a greater risk of prostate problems and various types of cancer. We normally like to spay and castrate from the age of 4 months.

Orthopedic Procedures
We have surgeons on board that are able to perfrom Patellar Luxation Repair, Cruciate Ligament Repair, and most frature repairs. Orthopedic surgeries require post surgical dedication from the client in order to ensure their pet recovers uneventfully and fully, free from any preventable complications. The surgeon will create a plan that best fits your pet's needs according to the procedure performed.

Dental Prophylaxis

Keeping your pet’s teeth clean and their gums healthy will not only look and smell nice, but will lessen their chances of complications that may lead to liver, kidney or heart disease.  If your pet does require a dental prophylactic treatment, then they will have to have a general anesthesia in order for this procedure to be completed in full.  Pre-anesthetic blood screening would be required to assure they are not already suffering from any kidney or liver problems that may compromise them during anesthesia.
